Trivago votes Nerja as 3rd best beach holiday destination in Spain.
Nerja continues to appear in the top rankings for holiday and tourist destinations in Spain.
Trivago, the online hotel booking website, has just published their latest ranking for the best 50 beach destinations in Spain. Nerja has come third with 78.29 points, only behind Conil (Cadiz) 79.34 points, and Marbella with 78.62 points.
Trivago is present in 28 countries, has a database of 500.000 hotels, and 28.000.000 user opinions to draw their results from.
Malaga FC warms up for Champions with pre-season match against Everton
Malaga’s historic entry into the Champions League for next season is subject to a 2 leg qualifying game at the end of August.
To prepare for these games, Everton football club have announced a pre-season friendly with Malaga here on the Costa del Sol at the Rosaleda stadium on August 11th.
Supporters of Malaga are looking forward to matches with the European football elite this coming season and this is a perfect warm-up for things to come.
Spanish Government reduces capital gains tax on second homes by 50pc.
The Spanish government has introduced more measures to try to stimulate sales of second homes in Spain.
Buying a second home or investment property in Spain between now and the end of the year will allow you to benefit from a 50% reduction in capital gains taxes when you come to sell, thanks to a new measure announced by Ana Pastor, head of the Ministry of Public Works, which also includes the Housing Department.
The tax break applies to individuals and companies, but does not apply to sales between parents and their children. Also it does not affect primary residences, which already benefit from a reduction of 100% in the capital gains tax (which obviously only benefits residents).
The measure is clearly aimed at investors and holiday home buyers, who will benefit from paying 50% less in capital gains when they come to sell, but only upon property purchased this year (2012).

These points can make your home look bigger, brighter, more inviting and create a better first impression. Remember, you are trying to sell or rent a property and not your home!

Another tale of moving to Spain!
Moving to another country is a big decision. It certainly was for me and my family back in the seventies. Just recently though a certain Yorkshireman, his wife and daughter, decided to uproot and go for it!
They came to Nerja, in Spain.
Many books have been written on the subject, of throwing caution to the wind, and moving abroad, and each one is a personal account of their author’s successes or failures. But most times, they are full of charming, often humorous and sometimes catastrophic tales of what eventually went right, despite all the trials and tribulations along the way!
One such story has just been published by Steve Terry and is called “Me, Miguel and the Bear”.
An interesting title, that can only be deciphered by buying the book and reading an entertaining and true story of Steve and his family moving from Yorkshire to Nerja, in Spain.

Spanish Government does U turn on NIE applications in Spain
The Spanish government has decided to revert back to the original way in which a foreigner may apply for an NIE number in Spain. Last December, the government ruled that all applications have to be made in person, and can no longer be applied for by a legal representative with a notarized power of attorney.
An official communication form the Spanish Ministry of the Interior on 13th April 2012 now states that an NIE number CAN be applied for by that person’s legal representative.
This is both a logical decision and a boost for the Spanish property market, given that by making it difficult to obtain this document, it was causing further harm to the property market in general and stopping lawyers from doing their job in representing their clients in a property purchase.
From a practical point of view, it saves hours of queuing at the local Police station and further visits to collect the document when issued.
